[The video feed of the gear turns on to show a close-up of a Squirtle's face. It taps at the screen curiously for a moment, before a voice comes in from offscreen.]

[The gear gets taken away from the Squirtle, which seems to pout at having its new toy taken away. The feed turns around to show Utakata, sends out a stream of bubbles with his bubble blower. He sighs as they start to pop, looking out at some random spot in the distance rather that at the 'gear.]

If anyone else can see this, I apologize.

Since it appears to already be recording, I may as well ask now. Someone in this village mentioned there were a few others that arrived here who called themselves shinobi.

I'd like to know who they are.

Well, watch yourself. This world might pretend to be nice and happy, but it's pretty much a shinobi's greatest enemy. No weapons allowed, no defending yourself through illegal means... it's a mess.

Think of them kind of like Genin. ...I mean, I've heard of people who didn't train their Pokémon, or Pokémon that didn't like to train, but almost all of mine... do, to get stronger. It's the only kind of protection we've got, either way. In case you didn't notice, there's no Chakra here, either.
